Since 1960, priests from the Servants of Charity Congregation have provided for the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of more than 800 children and adult residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) at its St. Louis Center located in Chelsea, Mich.
St. Katharine Drexel: Educator, Philanthropist, and Catholic Foundation Patron
Join us March 3rd in celebrating the feast day of St. Katharine Drexel, the patron saint of the Catholic Foundation of Michigan.
St. Katharine (1858-1955) was born in Philadelphia as the second daughter of a prominent banker and was no stranger to philanthropy. When Katharine’s father passed away, he donated a portion of his estate to various Catholic charities and left the rest to his three daughters.

These words from our patroness, St. Katharine of Drexel, are appropriate for the work with which we are entrusted: inviting Catholics in southeast Michigan to Build for Eternity. Therefore, it is with joy, humility and gratitude that we close the books on 2017 at the Catholic Foundation of Michigan. We are building the support structures of the Foundation that will enable the faithful work of Catholics to endure.
God Will Exceed Our Expectations
Over the course of my legal career, I have helped clients with their family and business needs, and one of the most effective tools is estate planning. Many of my Catholic clients have been looking for the Catholic version of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, but there wasn’t anything comparable. I also work with heirs in estate administration when a loved one dies. In certain cases, the deceased family member left bequests to a long list of Catholic charities, however, some of those organizations had ceased to exist.
If It Wasn’t For You, My Baby Wouldn’t Be Alive
“If it wasn’t for you, my baby wouldn’t be alive.” These are words a young mother spoke, as she handed her seven-month old son to Peggy and Mike O’Dea, on Christmas Eve, after ringing the doorbell to their home. Her words represent what Jesus said: “Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me” (Mat 25:40).

Catholic Foundation Welcomes Operations Coordinator Meg Doyle
The Catholic Foundation of Michigan is pleased to welcome staff member, Meg Doyle who will serve as Operations Coordinator. Equipped with an accounting degree from Madonna University, Meg previously served as office manager at Sigma Financial, a position she held for seven years.
Educating God’s Children
St. Anselm parish school, in Dearborn Heights, is the beneficiary of a Catholic Foundation of Michigan endowment. The foundation’s first fund was opened through the generosity of its long-time pastor Msgr. James Moloney, who opened the endowment for his “beloved parish school” to help ensure the funding of ongoing operational and maintenance needs.

Since 1886, historic Ste. Anne Church has been located in Detroit on St. Anne Street between W. Lafayette Boulevard and Howard Street.
Beautiful and historic Catholic churches attract worshipers and pilgrims. They provide a glimpse at the splendor of God’s beauty and reveal our faith’s history. Ste. Anne de Detroit is the second oldest continuously operating Catholic Church in the United States, founded in 1701.
