On Ascension Sunday, June 2, the Catholic Foundation organized a pilgrimage to Ste. Anne de Detroit Parish for its Founders’ Circle members. Ste. Anne de Detroit is the second oldest continuously operating Catholic parish in America and the oldest Christian community in Detroit, founded in 1701. After gathering for Mass, a tour, presentation, and refreshments were offered for Founders’ Circle members and friends.

Today Ste. Anne de Detroit parish is rich in diversity and is home to parishoners of many ages, cultures and backgrounds. The current church was built in 1886. Its soaring neo-Gothic architecture, incredible stained glass windows, impressive side altars and statues, and dazzling starred ceiling make it an important landmark in the City of Detroit. Ste. Anne Church is the site of the official Shrine to Ste. Anne in the Archdiocese of Detroit (Ste. Anne is the patron saint of the Archdiocese).

Ste. Anne Church is also the final resting place of Fr. Gabriel Richard, who was an important figure in the history of our state as a religious leader, civic activist and co-founder of the University of Michigan.

It was a beautiful afternoon to gather for celebration, learning, and appreciation of our church history!

Board member Pat Fehring shares his commitment to the Foundation’s mission. Pat invited all gathered to join the Founders’ Circle during this special time.

It is not too late to be a part of this vital group of supporters, the Founders’ Circle.

Membership is a lifetime opportunity to make a difference in our community of faith. Individuals who contribute $5,000 per year for five years to help fund the operations of the Catholic Foundation during its formative years, will be invited to join the Founders’ Circle. Members are publicly recognized by the Foundation, in perpetuity, and will be invited to the annual education, social and spiritual events hosted by the Foundation.
