Saint Katharine Drexel’s Sacred Tomb to be Transferred
St. Katharine of Drexel’s remains will be moved from the Motherhouse of the Sisters of Blessed Sacrament located in Bensalem, PA to the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Philadelphia. St. Katharine of Drexel, the Catholic Foundation’s patron saint, founded the Sisters of Blessed Sacrament in 1891. The order has decided to sell the buildings and grounds, thus the need to move the remains. The new shrine will be open to the public in September with an official opening in November. “Katharine has often been referred to as an apostle of social justice, that is the message she speaks to us today.” Sister Donna Breslin, President of the Sisters of Blessed Sacrament.
The Public Celebration of the Installation of the Tomb of Saint Katharine Drexel will take place on Sunday, November 18, 2018, with the 11:00 AM Solemn Mass at the Cathedral Basilica in Philadelphia, PA.
