“Taking a cue from our Holy Father Pope Francis, and using the inspiration of the Holy Family, Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan (CCSEM) works diligently every day to care for the least among us in our area of the world in southeast Michigan,” said CEO Dave Bartek.

Catholic Charities is the charitable service arm of the Archdiocese of Detroit and offers loving service to more than 20,000 persons annually. Knowing that everyone is made in the image and likeness of Jesus, CCSEM respectfully serves families from all walks of life – from those just starting out; families new to our country and our language; struggling expectant and single mothers; those battling addiction; our youth who face so many challenges; disabled persons; those who are alone; and the growing elderly population in need of care.

All Saints Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry operates year-round. The soup kitchen is open three days a week feeding about 100 people. The food pantry is open two days a week and assists approximately 50 to 60 families each month.

CCSEM receives financial support from a variety of sources including federal grants, nominal fee for services, insurance eligible treatment and importantly through the community’s generosity. Bartek continues, “The Catholic Foundation of Michigan is the answer to those who want to invest according to Church teaching to support authentically Catholic ministries, of which we are one. It’s also the answer to our prayers to identify a platform in which to build a sustainable future to support our work in perpetuity.”

CCSEM programs and services are provided in authentically Catholic environments consistent with Catholic social teaching principles and are in 13 locations across the six counties of the Archdiocese.

“As Jesus said, ‘The poor you will always have with you’ (Mat 26:13), which is why it’s critical to provide opportunities for donors to invest in our mission to sustain and grow our operations and programming,” Bartek said.  Additionally, “We need help promoting our services within our local Catholic community. There are so many who don’t know the many ways we help, as well as the many ways generous donors and volunteers can help support the corporal works of mercy,” he said
